I'm glad you did your research, Colleen. Copyright does attach to all creative works automatically, but if you want to go after infringers, you have to register it with the Library of Congress. A lot of writers don't know this. And mailing yourself a copy of your work is a myth, not a clever fix.
Yes! I did a search this morning and found a note saying in response to a complaint filed, a search result has been taken down. The offending website is no longer searchable.
That’s exactly what I did, Mary. I registered with the Library of Congress. I couldn’t have predicted AI would target my work so blatantly but I’m happy to go through the process to protect my work. Thanks for the comments and I hope you’re doing well.
I wish I knew. I do know I would assign its own ISBN number and do some research before foraying into the project. I planned to record an audiobook for my memoir but ran into some health issues and discovered the cost for studio and production time to be prohibitive. Then again, there are those that buy the microphone and go into a closet and get it done. If that’s your dream to create an audiobook, I say don’t be deterred. Just do your due diligence. Damn I’m slow to respond. Yes, it was a shock to see my work turned into AI slop. But terribly gratifying to read that the website was taken off of search results by my complaint. We must be vigilant and take action against thieves of intellectual property. I appreciate your comments and support, Mary.

Is there some way to secure audiobook copyright before you create the audiobook?
